Recording Sugars is simple: just enter your mg/dL or mmol/L and click Record. If you need to change the date/time, click on the date and an interactive calendar will appear.

Phone / email / text message submissions are easy as well. Send an email or text message with your mg/dL in the message body to the address on your preferences page, and mysugars.com will automatically record your sugar and the date/time sent. You can also include tags in phone and text message submissions. The subject of the message does not matter.

Note: the seemingly random letters at the end of your record address are used to ensure that other people cannot record data for you without knowing this code.

Changing and deleting existing sugars is just a matter of clicking on the piece of data you want to change and hitting "Change" or "Delete". Whenever you are looking at a particular day's history and you can see individual sugar recordings, you can click the recordings to modify or remove them.

Tags are helpful when you need to include extra information with your recording. Ever suspected that being stressed out causes your blood sugar to rise but haven't been able to conclusively decide? Try tagging your recordings with "stress" whenever appropriate and you'll get a little more insight. mysugars.com lets you tag your blood sugars with associated information so you can later find trends between your sugar levels and the conditions that influence them. You can add any number of tags to a particular sugar just by typing the tags (each individual tag should have no spaces) after your mg/dl. For instance, if I just got out of the gym and want to record a new sugar, I'll enter my data as: "115 postworkout". Over time, I can watch these tags and discover if they are meaningful.

Importing and exporting data is not currently available but is coming soon...if you have any particular requests or suggestions regarding this front please let me know.

Historical trends are much easier to spot with relevant graphs and charts. Go to History to see a summary of your sugars over the last 3 months. From this main historical view you can specify various other time frames and choose from a few different charts to analyze. The summary chart shows you daily, weekly, or monthly averages. The hourly chart breaks your selected time frame down hour-by-hour so you can spot trends within the day. The tags chart compares your averaged tag data to all other sugars within the time frame.

Clicking any link in the summary view will "tunnel" down to a more specific time frame until a single day's history is reached. At this point, the day's sugars and tags can be modified or deleted just like the "Last 24 hours" table you've become familiar with while recording.

Currently, the most relevant piece of information provided for each data point is the day/week/month/tag's average, which means that the number of data points (n) involved in each average is extremely significant.

Note: the yellow bar on every graph signifies an ideal blood sugar range from 70 to 130 mg/dl.

Learn from tags by clicking on the "tags" history link. This data, although not yet graphed, is useful when trying to evaluate the significance of a specific tag that you've been using to label sugars. The more data points you have per tag the more informative each tag becomes, so it is obviously helpful if you label similar sugars with identical tags (i.e. always use "postworkout" for recordings that immediately follow a trip to the gym). As you can see, after a few weeks of using tagged sugars it is undeniable that going to the gym significantly lowers my blood sugar, while my brief bout with a cold made my sugars somewhat elevated.

U.S. and world standard units can be used for your blood sugar recordings. Just go to Options and choose either mg/dL (U.S.) or mmol/L (World/SI).

Your local time zone is also specified in the Options page.

Sharing your data will make it easy for your doctor or family members to view useful information that you've been accumulating. This will obviously be an optional feature, and it will only be available for those who give their doctor or family a private URL which will provide a read-only view of your data. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available.
